Foam proportioning systems



The proportioning system is an essential element of any foam firefighting system as it ensures the correct mix ratio of foam concentrate to water. These systems can include pumps, bladder tanks or atmospheric tanks for foam concentrate storage as well as the proportioners and foam inductors themselves.
SKUM offers a wide range of different types, designs, specification and approval types of foam proportioning systems to meet many application and market requirements:
  • Inline inductors are extremely cost-effective, easy to install and maintain. Any foam storage tank can be used in conjunction with these inductors, and can be refilled during operation as there is no external power supply.
  • Self-inducing nozzles offer ease of installation, use and maintenance. Foam storage can also be refilled during operation.
  • Around-the-pump inductors can deal with variable solution flow by adjusting the pick-up rate into the proportioner. No pressure loss is caused by the proportioning system, which is easy to use and maintain. The tank can also be refilled during operation as there is no external power supply.
  • Balanced pressure proportioners can handle various flows and pressures while maintaining nominal proportioning.These proportioners are easy to install and achieve a low pressure drop.
  • Bladder tanks contain few moving parts and achieve a low pressure drop with a variable flow capability. These can be used with all types of foam concentrates.

Bladder Tanks
Bladder Tanks are a component of a balanced pressure proportioning system that includes a pressure-rated tank with an internal elastomeric bladder for foam concentrate storage. Upon system actuation, incoming water applies pressure to the concentrate in the bladder, which supplies pressurized concentrate to the prop ortioning device.The device meters the foam concentrate into the fire water line, creating foam solution. The solution is then piped to the discharge devices protecting the hazard area.

The new design includes a variety of features that make installation, service and maintenance more efficient and convenient. A few key features/benefits:
  • Open Leg Design - easy access to the bottom of the tank
  • New Shell Drain System - faster refilling after commissioning testing
  • Standard Grooved Coupling Connections - easy integration into firewater piping
  • Reversible Water Inlet - pipe from either side of a vertical tank
  • Master Shutoff Valve - Use, install, or replace the sight gauge with less mess
  • Valve Nameplates with Ring Pins and Tamper Seals - No questions about which valve is which or what position it was left in.

Bladder tanks have numerous applications, including truck loading racks, aircraft hangers, dip tanks, pump rooms and helipads. Because the tanks require no external power supply other than a pressurized water source, they are more economical compared to pump systems (for systems under 2,000 gallons). And bladder tanks, because of their simple design, require very little maintenance.
Bladder tanks are available in horizontal, vertical and pre-piped models.
