Alcohol Resistant Aqueous Film-Forming Foam Concentrates

Alcohol Resistant Aqueous Film-Forming Foam (AR-AFFF) concentrates are high performance synthetic foam concentrates comprised of fluorosurfactants, hydrocarbon surfactants, water soluble polymers, fluoropolymers, and polysaccharide gums.

AR-AFFF concentrates are well-suited for use on both large, Class B hydrocarbon and polar solvent fuel fires, including such fuels as alcohols and ketones. The foam solution may be used under either soft or forceful application (Type I and II).

AR-AFFF solutions utilize three suppression mechanisms for rapid fire knockdown and burnback resistance:

  • The foam blanket blocks oxygen supply to the fuel.
  • Liquid drains from the foam blanket and forms either an aqueous film on a hydrocarbon fire, or a polymeric membrane on a polar solvent fire to suppress the vapour and seal the fuel surface from the air.
  • The water content of the foam solution produces a cooling effect for additional fire suppression.
